Wooden Supercar Is A True Masterpiece

Written by tonks on August 29, 2008

Wooden SupercarSplinter is the name for a new supercar – but not one that you could drive around in (at least not easily). It is a wooden supercar that is being created by woodworking students. The students are creating this work of art for the International Woodworking Fair and we are excited to be able to see the first set of pictures of the progress they are making.

So far the crew have been able to connect the wooden body to the wooden chassis with no problem. The body of the car has been created of a basket-woven wood that has been overlaid with a resin and then pressed together into a mold. If you can believe it they have even managed to give it a decent interior.

While the car isn’t nearly finished yet, the work is one of the most impressive examples of brilliant design and clever engineering. For now they will be working on the driveline and working out a clever way to make wooden glass. We can’t wait to see the new progress pictures.
