Volkswagen Releases Base Model For Scirocco

Written by tonks on October 9, 2008

Volkswagen is encouraging consumers to drive their Scirocco. In order to accomplish this they are doing what they can on their end to make this happen. When the Scirocco was launched it was available only in the up-level GT trim.

Now they have made it available in a base form that starts at an affordable £18,790. Yet, this happy ending is not happy for everyone. The new model will not be available to those in the U.S.

The Scirocco is powered by a standard 1.4 liter TSI engine that can push out 160 horsepower and go almost 43 miles to the gallon. The base trim includes a six-disc CD changer, 17” alloy wheels, and air conditioning.

VW has made a second engine available in both the Base and GT trims. The new diesel 2.0 liter pushes out 140 horsepower and is equipped with common rail oil-burner that receives 55 European miles to the gallon. Consumers have a choice for either a DSG gearbox or a six speed manual.
