American sports cars have to have V-8 engines, but the modern breed, like the Panoz Esperante GT have ultra-modern engines combined with a good framework for a production sports car. In this case a frame made up of aluminum extrusions. True, carbon fiber is lighter, but it is also very expensive, while the aluminum frame is fairly light and rigid, and less expensive to produce.
