Porsche Takes Victory From Audi

Porsche RacecarIt was Porsche against Audi at the last lap of the American Le Mans. Neck in neck they raced each one trying to get ahead of the other. Then suddenly Audi experiences a mechanical malfunction and Porsche raced ahead and taking home the victory.

Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas took another overall victory for Porsche in the ALMS at Mosport with a late pass on the ailing Audi of Allan McNish. The Scottish driver appeared to have the race wrapped-up heading into the closing stages, but he was unable to hold on when his R10 became stuck in gear.

Bernhard, driving a Porsche RS Spyder, took the lead with only three minutes left as McNish became stuck in fourth gear. With the win, Bernard and teammate Romain Dumas gave Penske Motorsports its second straight team prototype-2 title.

“We have shown in the past year that this team is one of the best. But we already knew that,” Dumas said. “Everyone knows the success of Penske Motorsports and Roger Penske. “Last year we had a nice car but the competition was not so high. This year we have a new car and thank goodness for that.”

Audi, who hasn’t won a race since April in the ALMS, is going to have to work extra hard next year to improve their game. Maybe they should take Porsche’s advice and get another car. One that won’t break down.

Audi have still not won a race overall since April in the ALMS, and their only other success came at the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.
