Maserati Testing New Coupe-Cabrio Model

Written by tonks on July 18, 2008

Maserati Coupe-CabrioMany have seen what looks to be the prototypes for the next Maserati model – which will use the platform of a coupe-cabrio. It was first spotted testing a year ago – but was well hidden away and has only just recently surfaced. The car is back in the testing stage – but it still looks as if it needs a lot of work done to it.

It was last seen on testing on the Nurburgring track in Germany – which is proof enough that they are still working on it and haven’t scraped the project.

Styling of the new car will be similar to the GranTurismo as the spy photos suggest, the key difference being a significantly shorter wheelbase. The first production model should appear late next year or in early 2010, but before then Maserati is expected to launch the convertible version of the current GranTurismo.

It will be equipped with a 302kW V8 4.2 liter engine and a six-speed ZF automatic transmission with the standard equipment.
