Jagaur XKR GT3 Prepares To Race

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Jagaur XKR GT3First Mazda and Peugeot showed off their prototype racers and now we are hearing about production-based racecars. At the same Birmingham show that will see the debut of Aston Martin’s V8 Vantage N24 customer track car, Jaguar is showing its new XKR GT3 car.

The Autosport International Show at the NEC, Birmingham is the place and the car is the race version of Jaguar’s sporty new aluminum-bodied, supercharged XKR, this one eligible for the FIA GT3 European Championship. Richard Lloyd and the Apex Motorsport crew have developed this ferocious feline to compete in the GT3 series that has become so popular around the world.

They currently have one car sold and two others are about to be gobbled up in the near future. Apex has been pretty successful in Le Mans racing, having competed with the Bentley Speed 8 most recently, winning the 2003 24 Hours in the process.

This isn’t an official factory effort, but Jaguar would certainly love to return to the podium as it moves forward from its recent fiscal worries. Apex hopes to have the car ready for the first race of the season at Silverstone in May. They plan to boost the power of Jaguar’s 4.2-liter supercharged V8 to 475 hp in race trim.

Official FIA track tests still need to be conducted to determine which, if any, changes will need to be made to the car in the interest of competitiveness. The first of those tests will take place at Monza on February 22 and 23.
