Ferrari Hybrid In The Works
Written by tonks on May 24, 2009
Ferrari is one of the biggest names in the supercar industry and many of us respect the models that they produce. Each one is specifically engineered to offer us speed and comfort in one package. That package might cost quite a bit of money – which is why we are content to stand on the side lines and watch them from afar.
What we didn’t expect was to see Ferrari take a turn in the type of cars that they make. For a few months now we have been hearing rumors that they have been contemplating making a hybrid car. But it seems that they have taken the next step. In February the automaker filed for a patent for an all wheel drive sports car equipped with a hybrid propulsion.
According to the reports this design is supposed to “improve the drivability of a sports car in conditions of poor grip.” The question we are all asking ourselves now is how it will be able to help the environment with this particular Green technology that it is boasting about. For now that bit of information is not at the forefront.
Instead Ferrari is telling people about the four ways that they will be introducing this one of a kind sports car with its new technology. There are a total of six different diagrams that each have their own set of wheels that are designed to be powered by the vehicle’s internal combustion engine through the use of a locking differential. The other set of wheels will be powered through a single electric motor or two small in wheel electric motors.
Ferrari is hoping to make history with this new supercar by giving drivers the ability to use all wheel drive technology while having a low amount of weight to carry. It is possible that this car will go a step further and be completely electric power – which in turn will help to reduce the amount of fuel it will need and to lower the emissions it releases. We will provide more details as they are released and hope to see some exterior designs surface soon.

That’s friggen cool, wonder what kind of horsepower numbers it’s gonna make?
This would a a great and smart move, I’ll be looking out for it.
I checked the projects for that car last year. Pretty cool stuff.
By the Way the cool stuff about hybrids and electric cars is that they don’t have to pay certain taxes. Well if you don’t have an hybrid you can do like me and save that money on insurance instead of the taxes.
Best Whishes with the blog pal,

Wow!!! Thats a super cool techonology for a super cool car maker man!
I haven’t read much on its new project but I am pretty sure that a leader of Sports car Ferrari is really gonna show us some magic in its Hybrid Car.
I am sure Ferrari should integrate some solar panels because those would look really cool. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until 2015 to see this masterpiece in action.
Building a Ferrari Hybrid is a sacrilege ….
they should just class them as light trucks, like the americans do with their SUVs.
Cool article and love the site! I would be great to see some new updates!
