What most people don’t know is that unique smell can be harmful and toxic. The potent brew of freshly released bromine, chlorine, lead, and other heavy metals are responsible for a variety of acute and long-term health concerns that adults, and especially children, should be concerned about.

The Ecology Center has released its annual consumer guide to the most toxic (and cleanest) new cars on the market. Taking the tallest podium as the worst offender is the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spider GT. Following in second is the Suzuki Reno, while the BMW 128i Convertible lands third. The least offensive new vehicle, as researched by the Center, is the Acura RDX SH-AWD. The Smart Pure Coupe and Chevrolet HHR LT take second and third cleanest, respectively. While the Ecology Center is quick to point out that the offenders aren’t as bad as last year’s group, they offer little information as to how consumers can limit their exposure.

The European version of the Lancer Sportback will have a 1.5 liter or 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine or the 2.0 liter turbodiesel. The Sportback Ralliart will have the turbocharged 2.0 liter MIVEC engine that has the ability to produce 237 horsepower and 253 pound-foot of torque. This engine will be used together with Mitsubishi’s Twin-Clutch SST transmission. It will also feature an Active Center Differential to help send torque to the wheels that can use it, as well as two-piston front brake calipers.

The Concept RA is powered by a turbocharged 2.2L clean diesel — with MIVEC continuously variable valve timing control — rated at 200 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. That power is put to the ground through the same Twin Clutch SST transmission found in the Lancer Evolution X. Unlike other clean diesels, Mitsubishi’s system doesn’t require the injection of Urea to meet strict U.S. emission standards.

It also comes with some other tech features like Active Steering and Active Damping controls – which will help drivers handle the vehicle with more ease. The conept drawing does a great job of peaking our interest – but we won’t know for sure if it will be a car worth having till we get to see it up close and personal and behind the wheel.
