Mercedes To Offer Turbocharged Engines In 2010
The Mercedes head of Daimler AG’s development and research – Thomas Weber – has released the news that they are working towards the goal of offering turbocharged engines for the whole line-up by 2010.
Unlike Mercedes-Benz’s current supercharged engines, these turbocharged motors won’t be built in the name of performance, but rather to meet upcoming emission standards. Not only does the automaker have to worry about the new CAFE mandate in the U.S., but also new legislation in Europe that will require Daimler to cut its average fleet emissions by 33 percent by 2012.
2010 Mercedes GLK To Be Released In October
Mercedes announced that the UK deliveries for the GLK will begin later in October. The 2010 Mercedes GLK will be available in four trim levels that include; two petrol versions and two diesel versions.
Pricing for the GLK220 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY starts at €33,900 ($53,929 USD) while the GLK 320 CDI 4MATIC starts at €38,700 ($61,565 USD). The petrol variants include the GLK 289 4MATIC which will start at €36,600 ($52,225 USD) and the GLK 350 4MATIC which will go for €38,700 ($61,556 USD).
McLaren SLR Speedster Out For A Test Run
More spy shots were taken of the McLaren SLR Speedster while under wraps. It looks as if McLaren decided to take it for a spin on the Nordschleife for a few tests.
The new car is reported to be lighter and more powerful then that standard SLR and SLR Roadster. This means that it could reach a top speed of 220 mph. Anyone looking for a fast car need to look no further.
SL 65 AMG Black Edition Most Powerful Mercedes Yet
Mercedes boasts that the brand new SL 65 AMG Black Edition is their most powerful car to date to bear the badge of AMG. It is powered by a V12 Bi-Turbo 6.0 liter that can produce 670 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. With this engine it has the ability to reach 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and to reach the top speed of 199 mph.
Mercedes SLR Speedster Spied
The Mercedes SLR Speedster was spied on the roads and it looks as if it will be one of the best SLR supercars that Mercedes has produced. It will also be one of the last road cars between Mercedes and McClaren.
The new SLR Speedster is a roofless, windscreen-less chop top that’s 200kg lighter than the standard SLR, accelerates from 0-180mph in 26 seconds and tops out at an incredible 218mph. Mercedes has cut as much weight from the standard SLR as possible, ditching its air conditioning system and using more carbon fibre in construction. It will also get carbon ceramic brakes a new track-derived exhaust system.
