Lexus To Retire The SC430

Most people are learning what it means to live frugally thanks to the downturn in the economy. This along with the advocacy to live ‘green’ is causing consumers to find vehicles that are more practical and easy on the wallets. Many consumers are looking for cars that have the luxury we crave – but the gas mileage that we can afford. This means that auto manufacturers are being forced to retire old models.

Next one up to the chopping block is the Lexus SC430. After months of rumors and questions Lexus has finally announced the end of their SC430 lineup. The vehicle – which was released in 2002 – has seen a downturn in sales. Aside from a small handful of special editions, very few changes have been made to the vehicle. Consumers are becoming more picky about their transportation and Lexus is beginning to feel it.

Last year they sold less than 1,000 of the vehicles and only 300 are confirmed to have been sold during 2010. This is a loss that Lexus is unable to handle long term. The cut will be effective in July of this year. It appears that only true Lexus fans will notice this drastic turn in events. That is until Lexus reveals plans for their new Pebble Beach Edition this summer.

The next generation SC will arrive in 2014 and Lexus hopes and prays that it will have a much bigger impact on consumers. The new SC600h is designed with a 5.0 liter V8 engine and hybrid drive train that will allow it to push out 400 to 500 horsepower. Its biggest competition will be the Mercedes SL-Class. Get your hands on the SC430 before they are gone.

Lexus LF-Ch Concept Debuts At The 09 LA Auto Show

Lexus is known as a world leader in premium luxury hybrids market ever since 2005 when it came out with the RX 400h. But now has decided to diversify just a little bit with its new concept car the Lexus LF-Ch Compact Hybrid that has already been seen at the Frankfurt Auto Show on September 15, 2009 but will make its North American debut in December at that 2009 Los Angles Auto Show.

Many who have seen this car think it is a bit strange that Toyota would call this car a Lexus with the five door body type and style it has. This car concept was designed by Toyota’s North American research group located in Newport Beach California – Calty Design Research Inc. Toyota feels that there is a market here that might appeal to younger urban green conscious car buyers. They have not released much about the cars mechanical specs yet waiting for the 09 Auto Show to do that – but has released plenty about the cars interior features and style details.

The first styling feature you might notice about this luxury hybrid is that it is a sedan but looks just like a coup. They did this by hiding the rear door handles in the chrome molding and blacking out the B pillar. It has domineering grille and a wide front bumper with an air dam to make this car have a stronger look. Like most hybrids it comes with LED headlamps and tail lights and hybrid side badging.

On the inside of this Lexus LF-Ch Concept there is mixture leather and metal trims giving it that elegant luxury look. Comes with a wide griped steering wheel that has integrated paddle shifters this keeps the interior looking sporty along with the instrument panel that has big twin dials that have a beautiful turbine blade design. The interior roof has a nifty blue headliner bordering it. Toyota is hoping this more diverse compact luxury hybrid will catch the eye of the younger urban green conscious car market.

Lexus Reveals LS460 To Moscow

Lexus revealed the new LS460 AWD at the 2008 Moscow Motor Show and we are more quite impressed with what we see. It is unusual for Lexus to be displaying the new sedan in Moscow due to the fact that they are not fond of the larger vehicles.

However, Lexus is hoping to change their minds and welcome it with open arms. Lexus have used the same four-wheel-drive system that they use in their LS600h, along with the eight-speed automatic transmission as well. The engine used will be the 4.6-liter V8, which is used in the standard model. This will produce 381 hp.

The LS460 AWD is fitted with a Torsen rear LSD. The torque is split 40/60 for normal driving conditions, but if you wish to drive the car harder then 70 percent of the power will go to the rear wheels. This allows for more speed and greater handling.

Lexus LF-A And GS-F Delayed

Lexus has decided to put their GS-F on hold until they can see which way the market for mid-size sedans will go. For now it seems that consumers are shying away from them as well as other SUV’s because the fluctuation in gas prices and other economical problems.

To make matters worse they have also delayed the LF-A because it has not yet meet the performance targets that Lexus instilled for the $200k supercar. They have not yet said when or if the GS-F will be put back on track – but we hope to see the LF-A meet its goal over the next few months.

Lexus Shows Off LF-A Again At British Motor Show

The Lexus LF-A has been spotted many times on the road testing, at the Nurburgring track, and in concept form several times. Many people have grown impatient waiting for the production version to make its move and hit the showroom floor.

Unfortunately we didn’t get that wish. What we got was yet another peek at the LF-A at the British International Motor Show. However – the automaker did bring something else to the London Motor Show to compliment the two LF-A concepts on stage.

Enclosed in a Plexiglas case is the 5.0-liter V10 that’s slated to power the coupe, and although there’s no accompanying spec sheet to give exact horsepower and torque figures (expect around 500 hp and 400 lb.-ft.). It’s not much, but its small size is telling, providing further proof that the bent-ten will be mounted close to the firewall for a front-midship placement.

Lexus IS F To Drive At Speed World Challenge

DRC Motorsports has produced their own IS-F racecars – which they will use to compete in the GT class of the SPEED World Challenge. The newly re-named IS GTF will be powered by a V8 4.7 liter engine that will be able to push out 510 horsepower. This engine will be connected to a six-speed transmission.

The first of these cars will make its official entrance during the Mid Ohio with Jeff Altenburg weekend and will have last year’s SWC Touring Car champion behind the wheel. The second car will be driven by Robb Holland and will be making its maiden run after the race at Road America.

Both cars are scheduled to run the remainder of the race season. If you want to watch the new IS GTF in action, SPEED will be airing the race on Thursday, July 24 at 1:00pm (EDT) following the Touring Car race.

Japanese Tuner Offers Package For Lexus IS-F

The Japanese tuner – Wald International – is best known for the Black Bison. It has now introduced a brand new tuning program for the newly released Lexus IS-F. Wald offers a more aggressive exterior package that changes the whole appearance of the car by giving it a large and more angular front intake and dual lower splitter.

The package is completed by Wald’s trademark air vents behind the rear wheels, a custom rear diffuser and rear wing. The extractor behind the front wheels perfectly blends with the side skirts to help give the IS-F a new style to match its horsepower of 417.

Lexus LF-A Price Will Be Over $200k

Several Lexus enthusiasts guessed that the U.S price for the new LF-A would be set around $130,00 after hearing that the price in China was set at $264,700. This week the price was set and all of these people are amazed at just how wrong their guess was.

While we still don’t have the exact price (because Lexus hasn’t officially set it yet) we do know that the first number will be ‘2’. That’s right the price will be over $200k – but just how much over we don’t know yet. Inside Line has guessed that the price will be set at $225,000. As we all know the convertible will be even more expensive.

In our opinion we think that Lexus might be asking a bit too much even if the Italians do have the money to pay for it. The question is will they?

LF-A Concept Delayed

The Tokyo Auto Show was a bit of a disappointment for some people who were excited to catch a glimpse of the Lexus LF-A concept. Fans were hoping to see a new and improved version of the LF-A – but were disappointed to see the one they’ve been staring at all year long.

Apparently Lexus is having a bit of trouble with some of their ‘key engineers’ who have been taken off this particular project and put onto other projects. Providing a V10 and a gas electric hybrid V8 are causing major delays in development.

With that being said Lexus is still trying to reach its goal to have everything finished in time for the release in 2009. I guess we are going to have to wait a little bit longer to get that sneak peek that we are looking for.

Lexus Brings In The Holidays With ‘Special Build’ IS-F

Lexus is known for spreading some holiday cheer by giving the gift of special edition cars. Of course they want you to buy that gift for yourself or as a gift to others. This year is no different they have teamed up with Neiman Marcus and created the Lexus IS-F ‘Special Build’.

The IS F is the fastest production car Lexus has ever built. It’s so fast that the Neiman Marcus Special Build Sedan includes a personalized half-day of pro-driver training compliments of the Skip Barber Racing School. Owners will have the chance to take the high-performance vehicle to the limit learning real racing skills and experiencing what the IS F can do on and off the road.

Delivering more than 400 horsepower from its 5.0-liter V8, the IS F can go from 0 to 60 in under 4.9 seconds. It has the world’s first eight-speed Sport Direct Shift gearbox and a specially engineered Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system featuring a high-performance sport mode. They also come with an Obsidian black paint job, perforated leather seats with white stitching and an “F” logo embossed into the headrests.

There will only be 50 of these exclusive ‘Special Builds’ made and because of that you can naturally assume that they will come at a steep price. Those who pay $68,000 for this sweet ride also get a chance to attend a complimentary course from Skip Barber(travel and lodging is included in that deal). So on October 18th get ready to buy the perfect gift and don’t forget to top it with a bow.
