The SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada is just around the corner – but some people just can’t wait that long to strut their stuff. Hyundai has already pulled the curtain off of the new Rhys Millen Racing Hyundai Genesis Coupe concept. Millen boasts that the new car is “one of the coolest cars at the show.”

The cars’s engine is the base turbo inline 2.0L four and plenty of modifications were done with the intention of showing tuners the coupe’s aftermarket possibilities. Hyundai hopes the modifications will turn the Genesis coupe into a race car ready to run in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Formula D, or Redline Time Attack series.

RMR has apparently stuffed the concept Genesis with too many upgrades to list, but a turbo kit, HKS sequential transmission, Brembo brakes and a K&W coil over suspension all help to amp up the car’s performance potential.

Hyundai Steps Up Their Game With Genesis Concept

When Hyundai revealed their concept Genesis at the New York Auto Show we knew that it was going to be a car that would impress consumers. They are stepping up their performance and design and expanding their models to compete with the higher end supercar automakers (BMW, Audi, Infiniti…).

“Concept Genesis extends our product range into new territories from a performance, design and packaging perspective,” said Steve Wilhite, chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor America. “When it arrives in 2008 it will catapult Hyundai into competition against some potent rivals,” Wilhite continued “and Genesis is up for the challenge.”
The Genesis is powered by the brand new dohc 32 valve 4.6 liter V-8 – which Hyundai tells us can make a whopping 300 bhp and 300lb foot of torque. Being equipped with a ZF 5 speed automatic with a Shiftronic manual ability will allow it to rev up from 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds.

This will be the first rear-wheel-drive Hyundai that we have seen in the U.S. Rear drive, in which the transmission sends the engine’s power to the rear wheels, provides superior steering and sportier driving dynamics, compared with front-wheel drive. We usually only see premium sedans, such as the 7 Series and S-Class, and sports cars such as Porsches and Ferraris with this type of rear drive.

The Genesis uses “ultra-high-tensile steel” – which gives the car a stiff, light, large body that compares favorably to those of BMW’s 5 Series and Mercedes’ E-Class midsize sedans. Hyundai also tuned the Concept Genesis’ suspension to be sporty and responsive.

Some of the features that we can expect to see are adaptive cruise control, heated/cooled seats, HID headlamps, navigation system, and a backup camera. Don’t worry we can still expect to see an affordable price (something we love about Hyundai) under $30,000. The Genesis is set to go on sale sometime next year.
