Next Generation Corvette Will Be Given Small Block V8 Engine

Chevy is taking some bold steps to ensure that the next generation Corvette is going to be bigger, badder, and of course faster than previous models. According to sources inside of GM the new model is going to be getting a brand new engine. This is contrary to the rumors surrounding this subject that claimed the new Corvette would be using a V6 instead of the usual V8 engine.

The biggest change will be in the C7 power plant – which will be downgraded from the 6.2 or 7.0 liter. According to speculation, the new model will be given one of the next generation small block GM engines. If this is true than it will have a sport direct injection, new combustion system design, and E85 capability.

One of the biggest features that will not be included are overhead cams. However, GM will continue to use their standard overhead valve design. This will help to lower the cost of manufacturing it and provide small engine dimensions.

With all of these features the new V8 engine will be cleaner and more fuel efficient without ever losing any of its power. Corvette fanatics will be happy to know that the C7 engine has the ability to displace 5.5 liters and push out 440 horsepower. Although the displacement is lower than the standard 6.2 and 7.0 liter – it will have more horsepower than the 430 hp it has now.

GM Halts Plans For Corvette C7

Autoweek stated that they have reliable sources that General Motors will be placing all of their plans for the C7 Corvette on an “indefinite hold, with no official or set timetable”. As sad as we are to hear that it doesn’t surprise us. GM has been having problems financially and are trying to come up with ways to save money.

At first we thought that the current C6 Corvette would be receiving upgrades over the next five years and was expecting the C7 to arrive in 2014. That timeframe is now suspended and Autoweek claims that GM has no idea what the future will hold for this model or the rest of the Corvette lineup.

So will this be the end of the Corvette? The vehicle line executive – Tom Wallace – assures us that the coupe is not going anywhere. “We’re still working on future Corvettes,” Wallace said, and “there are changes, some neat stuff, coming for 2010 that I can’t talk about yet.”

Car And Driver Tests ‘Ring Time Of Corvette ZR1

Car and Driver tested the brand new Chevy Corvette ZR1 and was able to record outstanding numbers. Naturally the ZR1 entered the ‘Ring to compete against the times set up by the Porsche GT2, Nissan GT-R, and Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR. The test results proved that the new Corvette was more then able to keep up with them and create their own impressive time.

Car and Driver was able to record the lap around the ‘Ring using top of the line technical testing gear that they strapped on to the ZR1. It was able to use its 638 horsepower supercharged engine to rev from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds and worked its way from 0-100 in 7.6 seconds.

It was able to run the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds with a speed of 128 mph. These numbers are not yet verified. Chevy claims that the time was 11.3 seconds and they were not able to completely record the top speed because the team “ran out of room”. They claim though that it is 205 mph.

The Corvette set a new Car and Driver record when it braked from 70 mph in only 142 feet. It may not have been the best time – but it is still impressive none the less.

(Porsche GT2 – 7:32, Nissan GT-R – 7:29, and the Dodge Viper ACR – 7:22)

O.K. lets be serious about what we are looking for when we are looking for that next special some one. I know this may seem shallow but, you really should consider your ride when it comes to dating. I know what you’re thinking for most people the first thing you look at when you meet some one probably isn’t their car.

It comes up though, even if you don’t mean for it to and sometimes there are a lot of things you can tell about a person by looking at there car. In fact many people are able to determine the income level and personality of someone just by watching what they drive.

If you are an adventurous person and a danger seeker then you should consider the two Hummer H2 and the Toyota FJ Cruiser. The Hummer H2 is used for those who love to show off their ride to everyone on and off the road. It also shows that they have a higher level of income. The Toyota FJ Cruiser has tomboyish flare and is perfect for the guys looking for the perfect girl.

If your one that’s ready to slow it down and settle down then you should cozy into a Lexus RX 400h or a Toyota Prius. The Lexus RX 400h is the only luxury SUV that’s a hybrid. The Toyota Prius is probably not something you want to be seen running around town in if you’re a guy but it is quite cute for girls and great for the up and coming super moms that will be driving her family all over town thanks to its excellent gas mileage.

For the person looking to do the opposite and be on the wild side of life it is time to speed around in a Chevrolet Corvette or a BMW Z4. The Chevrolet Corvette is a Ferrari like car and is the way to go if your looking to be seen by the opposite sex.

For the classier person try an Aston Martin DB9 or maybe the Mercedes-Benz SL. The Aston Martin DB9 and the Mercedes-Benz SL are beacons of class with their luxurious and exotic aura. They show off intelligence, wealth, and refinement.

GM Employees Get Sneak Peek At Chevy Volt

GM will be showing off the new Chevy Volt to employees and giving them a sneak peek that many of us would kill to have. The production version of the Volt is almost finished. GM is hoping that giving them this sneak peek will give them some much needed hope.

The extended range electric vehicle will be shown internally around the September 16th centennial, and employees who see the Volt will, of course, have to check their cameras and phones at the door. That doesn’t mean the public won’t soon get an eyeful of the car, as GM sources report that it’ll be shown in production trim at this year’s LA or Detroit Auto Show.

2010 Camaro Specs And Pictures Revealed

For a year or more we have been hearing about the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and we have been waiting patiently to get some good pictures of both the exterior and the interior of the production version. CarTribe was able to get their hands on some and have graciously shared it with all of us car enthusiasts. The Camaro is set to be officially revealed Monday.

The Camaro will come in LS, LT and SS trim, equipped with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic. Of course, that doesn’t account for the very-obviously-marked RS car that is shown in the official photos, so who knows what the whole story is.

Engine choices include either a 296 hp, 3.6-liter V6 or a 416 hp 6.2-liter V8 which will feature cylinder deactivation to boost fuel economy. Underneath the retro sheetmetal is a full independent suspension and StabiliTrak traction control system. Four-pot Brembo brakes are mounted up front on the SS variant, and the 3,700-pound coupe will reportedly have a weight balance of 52/48, front/rear. The neuvo-retro theme is carried inside with a gauge cluster inspired by the 1969 model, along with leather seats and blue LED lighting.

Video: Watch Corvette ZR-1 Make Record Time At ‘Ring

General Motors gave us a wonderful gift this week when they released an in-car video of the lap that the Corvette ZR-1 drove at the Nurburgring. The car got up to 180 mph and managed to lap the ring in 7:26,4. The course is 12.9 miles.

We were happy to hear that the ZR1 was able to beat out the time set by the Z06 – but nothing beats getting to watch it while it succeeds. Jan Magnussen set the record for the Z06 back in 2005 and Jim Mero was able to knock it down by 17 seconds.

Chevy Volt To Appear In Transformers II

General Motors has faith that the Chevy Volt and other plug-in electric cars will do well for them financially. If things are looking down for them now they are hoping that the recent commercialization that they have been working hard on will help them.

They have scheduled the Volt to be the centerpiece for the up and coming Centennial celebration that GM is throwing. However, this isn’t enough for them. They are hoping that a bit of face time in a blockbuster hit will do the trick for them.

Both the Chevy Beat and Volt are supposed to be appearing the in Transformers sequel. Those who love it in the movie will get their chance at picking one up for themselves not long after. The Volt is scheduled to be released in 2010.

GM Not Expecting Any Profit From First-Gen Chevy Volt

Bob Lutz from Chevy told reporters that the new Chevy Volt hybrid-electric series will cost around $40,000 – which is more than $10,000 more than the original model. He went on to say that this first generation of the Volt will bring in absolutely no revenue for General Motors.

There’s still hope for buyers who were hoping to snag a Volt closer to $30,000, as potential tax incentives on state and federal levels could trim the price substantially. Congress is currently considering proposed legislation for plug-in hybrid tax credits on the order of around $7,000. Still, there’s no telling what demand there will be for the Volt, and if it’s higher than the supply, we could see markups on GM’s high-tech hybrid from dealers who are trying to survive this transition from a market dominated by profitable trucks and SUVs to smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles.

According to Lutz, however, cars like the Volt are the way of the future, and GM’s car czar expects that between 2020 and 2025 a quarter to a half of all vehicles sold will be either electric- or hydrogen-powered.

GM Promises Chevy Volt To Arrive On Time

Many of us doubt whether or not we will get a chance to see the Chevy Volt in action or if it will even be released on schedule. However, Bob Lutz has reassured once again stating, “I would say there’s almost no reasonable doubt in our minds anymore that this is going to work.”

This promise means that despite all of the problems that GM has been running into problems trying to produce the right technology for the Volt. Lutz said that engineers have driven the car to and above its 40-mile pure electric range already.

Two companies are still trying to win the lithium-ion battery pack contract, although LG Chem says it has a 3rd-gen unit that’s ready to go. Another hurdle is the car’s internal combustion range extender starting up, which Lutz described as “noisy and still a little rough.”
