2008 Chevy Trailblazer SS
Written by tonks on January 7, 2008
The new Chevy Trailblazer may not be a supercar – but for an SUV it makes one heck of a cool car in our books. Chevy has done a great job of creating a stylish looking SUV that is full of power and luxury. So when you are out on the open and bumpy gravel roads for the annual family camping trip you can do it in style and comfort. You may still be bumping all over the place – but at least the seats are comfortable.
Chevy offers the Trailblazer in three separate trim levels, the LS, LT, and SS. Our favorite model was the SS – which has all of the important features plus some added bonuses including, a larger version of the V8 engine, 20” wheels, and a sporty chassis.
The 6.0 liter V8 engine – which is similar to the one used in the Corvette – packs 391 horsepower and around 395 pounds of torque. Most SUV’s are built with the 4WD – but Chevy took a different approach and decided to use the all wheel drive system for better performance when not being driven off road.
The Trailblazer SS is a complete class of its own (which is why we have granted it access to the other cool cars). It may be big – but get behind the wheel and watch as you floor from 0 to 60mph in 6.3 seconds. Plus you can drive on any type of straight or twisty road without fear of losing control. This might be one of the best, high powered, well controlled, SUV’s on the market.

I want to have this car
my dad’s jeep srt8 would smoke that. it 0- 60 in 4.7 seconds.
this car will kill your car anyday anytime and any place
i do have a 2008 trailblazer ss with a few mods and ripped off a 0-60 in 4.65. bring on the srt8 junk
I have a 2008 TBSS and cannot wait every day to drive it.
I have woken up a 2:00AM and taken it out for spin with a big silly grin on my face.
Comfortable, fast, loaded with goodies, and did I say FAST?
A Corvette with a trailer hitch!
It is today’s typhoon. Soooo easy and cheap to make 600hp in this ride, and do it reliably. And I can tow my race car with it.
my neighbor has a nice silver 2007 TBSS in his driveway when all I got is a 2005 Envoy xl (not that thats bad… but what would rather have?)
SS with a few mods doin 0-60 in 4.65? Yea with mods it does it. Stock though the SRT8 Jeep spanks the bumper off the SS trailblazer. It’s almost a full 2 seconds faster!!! 0-60 in 6.3 is not fast, its sad. Sorry but a Hemi always wins.
A TBSS is at least 8-10,000 dollars CHEAPER than GCSRT-8
and for 1-2,000 dolars will spank the CRAP out an GCSRT and still have 6-8,000 dollars in the BANK LMAO
6.3 seconds 0 – 60 seems quite high. Absolute stock I can hit it in well over 0.5 seconds quicker at 5.6. Not sure what the discrepancy is here but I will say that both the Jeep and SS are great new American muscle SUV’s that just can’t be matched from overseas. With that said I would have rather purchased the GC-SRT8 but $10K less and a tow rating double that of the Jeep the SS was the clear winner. Also, what most people do not understand is I pay the exact same for this vehicle as a 2006 model with 395hp that someone with a 4wd Envoy would pay. The GC-SRT8 is considered a high-risk, high-performance vehicle by the insurance companies. My SS is only $800 a year…
Also, try to get in and rate the rear passenger seat, rate the comfort and the size of the cargo area of the SRT8 and you will see why the TBSS wins hand down.
After owning a 1996 Impreza WRX STi V3 with ultra stiff teeth shattering suspension, I said that I would never own a car like that. I think the TBSS has the right balance between Performance, Comfort, Practicality and Price…did I say I got my 3SS with 5K miles on the clock for 25K US$?
The bargain of the year!
Luke, you’re lucky your daddy’s GCSRT8 is quick, cause you’re fucking slowwwwwww. The “hemi” in the SRT8’s isn’t even a true Hemi. It’s a marketing ploy they came up with to get idiots, (like you and daddy) to buy into the SRT8 name and think they have a real Hemi. Then, you look dumb when you brag about having a Jeep with a Hemi and people who are actually educated about what a true Hemi is can laugh at you for being retarded, because you don’t actually have a Hemi…you got that right?? I’m trying to go slow for you here so you understand. The money saved buying a TBSS over a GCSRT8 will get you a cam, headers, intake, trans cooler, higher stall converter, and a tune which will make daddy’s stock “hemi” Jeep look like its going in reverse. And now go ahead and say OH WELL DADI CAN BUY DA HENNESSEY PKG N GET PRIM 20% TINTS N SHIT. Shut up, you can still squeeze a hell of a lot more performance out of a Chevy LS2 than you can that 6.1L “hemi” of yours. And don’t even try the “Wow I cant believe you typed all that I don’t care at all ur so gay” rebuttal either because I know you want to and that’s about all you could say at this point, seeing as everything I said was 100% correct and you no longer have anything to argue…That’ll do.
That goes for you too, Rob. Read and learn things. Learning is valuable.
Ya, regardless of who posted what about the Jeep’s, that post goes out to all of the ignorant Mopar guys. Steve’s 100% right and you both just got backhanded and should now wear skirts.
Heh, thats funny ’cause it’s true!
I drove some of these TBSS cause the looks and power were appealing. I never have been a jeep fan, don’t care how fast it goes. I’m into modding vehicles myself and i’m not talking about exhaust tips and intakes.
Not to take anything away from the TBSS cause it is nice for sure but I wound up buying a Infiniti FX35. Sure it’s not as fast but the handleing was better hands down.
That jeep maybe fast but it’s still ugly! Maybe thats why they made it a little faster so it can do us a favor and get off the road faster!
I was curious about these TBSS’s and came here to see what they had. A guy came up on me in one today and in looked very menacing in the mirror (1 for chevy) as he tried to go around me at 55, I dropped my ‘87 944 into third and hit 100+ in about 2 sec. while the SS guy just had to tuck back in (way) behind me (big one for 23 year old Porsche). Maybe the TBSS has better paper stats than real life…..
have you ever consider the power to weight ratios of the TBSS and your little Porsche?
5000 pounds vs 3000 pounds!
why don’t you measure the Cayenne GTS vs TBSS? Bang/Buck
Wow, can’t believe some of the non-sense i have just read…my tbss with just a few mods burns the vetts…chargers…challengers…mustangs…..if you want to run against mine then you need something real special… and the jeeps lol PLEASE….
hey whats up guys, ive read everyones comments and I think the TBSS is what im getting. Im getting one this week, a red one 2008, cant wait to have it in my drive way, but anyways, can anyone tell me what kinds of modifications can i do to it once i get it to run faster and about how much that will cost me? Thanks if you reply back to me i really appreciate it.
I have an 08 SS Trailblazer. Best SUV in the world right now. Fast as all hell and handles like a dream. I live in the Northwest and we have some nice passes to drive through. Got up to 100 mph in some of the tight curves,(scarred the shit out of me) handled awesome. Made for it I guess. After the pass, hit a straight away, see ya later all. 140 mph and still had horses screamin for more. Once again scarred the shit out of me……Anyway, put your cash away, you will just help me make my payment.
I had a 2007 Z06 505 hp 0-60 in 3.7 and for financial reasons (like 90% of the world)traded it in for a 2008 Trailblazer SS…which I had never heard of till the saleman pointed out that it’s an SUV with a Corvette engine, albeit not the 7 litre Z06. I was hooked instantly. Nothing will touch a Z06…barring Bugatti Veyron which in any case costs 1 million bucks…and I’ve done tons of street racing…but man did I have fun with my SS. Fact is hardly anyone knew what it was…so just like an earlier comment from someone, it’s priceless to see the look on a mustang or even porsche boxter driver’s face…plus I had a chick next to me and two in the back. To launch you need to disengage the traction control and not slam it too hard cuz you’ll get too much wheel spin…but it just flies. What’s even more impressive is if ur doing 40 mph nice and easy in top gear and suddenly slam the gear lever into first and floor it…everything turns blurry.Dimmit chevrolet in florida will supercharge it by agreement with well known Callaway blowers and kit to boost power to 580 easy just for starters. Then get the exhaust and other refinements plus supersoft tires and you’ll have a 4 second SUV. BTW I paid 27,000 for it brand spanking new compared to an SRT8 which lists at 43K. No contest !
I own a 2006 ss blazer with a few mods that is fuckin sink you in the seat fast … Bring any SRT8 !! A hemi is just a wanna be 350 5.7 chevy anyway …
Just read through these. It is nice to see so many people agree with me. I love my 08 tbss. I got it for a retirement vehicle and have have my Grandkids’ carseats in the back. Did ya ever get ur doors blown off by a grey-haired old man with a car seat? Both my kids have Dodge Rams. which is a good name cuz they dodge when Daddy goes by
srt8 sucks tbss is the best car ever
the car srt8 is the slowest car ever tbss will win in a race so tbss is the best car ever
I just got the Wine 08 TBSS last week. I have already put over 400 miles on the damn thing. People have asked why I drive is so much… It’s great lookin, super fast, I love it, and just paid that much for it. Not that much actually, $30,000. But, I got it to drive it. I am stationed in upstate New York, and already know that I can beat almost everything the deployment money has bought the other soldiers up here. I absolutely love this thing, it turns heads like no other… a SUV SS. Super awesome. And, it looks way better than the Jeep SRT8. Now, just waitin to mod this thing to GO FASTER!!!
Dude it sucks when a 2002 i6 with exaust mods, huge 50 hp custom engineered tip, ram air through the headlights and 5 hoods scoop/ vents I customized into the hood… I beat a jeep hemi and clocked a 4.7 to 0 to 60 tonight.. it’s a zombie killing machine…
P.s. I also have a g force performance chip ($69)and and my trailblazer books for $4700 ha ha… I used to have jeep and they suck they break down after punching it… and they look like a station wagon…
I cant believe the tards on this spread. First of all the Jeep is and always will be a better performance based SUV than the TBSS. The Jeep SRT 8 was build strictly for performance, the trailblazer was build for performance and practicality. The performance numbers do the talking, not the self proclaimed know it all’s on this board.
Spend 2 grand and the TBSS will be faster than the SRT 8? Which friggin bargain bin do you shop in to get mods that cheap that would beat an SRT 8 for that price.
If you want great race car handling and performance in an SUV, get the Jeep. If you want a performance SUV that can still get a decent 0 to 60 number and have a smooth ride and pull a trailer, get the TBSS. There are perks to each vehicle, it just all depends on what you are looking for.
Please dont do uneducated bashing of a vehicle just because you dont like the brand.
To Jake, the SRT 8 Hemi is a 6.1, not a 5.7
To Pabel, really? you can get more HP out of a chevy 6.0 than the Hemi 6.1? You do know Chevy has been around for as long as Mopar right? I am quite sure they are both more than capable of pushing out big numbers. And you are correct about the Hemi not really being a HEMI but who really gives a shit, it still hauls ass. Do you know who actually has a HEMI motor? Toyota believe it or not.
Just My 2 bits
Exquisite write-up, give thanks to you, I should visit yet again now!
Guys i have a trailblazer ss and know nothing about modding. What can i get that you guys say is cheap to make my ss faster. I have about 1,000 to spend. Plz help out so i can burn some gc srt8’s
Not sure what year it was, but I just smoked a TBSS two times. It looked and sounded modified. I have an 06 Mustang GT convertible, stock with aftermarket exhaust. Had my wife and two boys in the back with groceries in the trunk.I knew when I pulled up to light next to him and he put his windows up that he wanted to go. I heard him raise his rpms and I started from dead 0. Had him by 2 car length when I let off. Did it again at the next light, same result. He turned after that. While its fast for a SUV, They aren’t fast. To damn heavy to compete with cars.
This thing is sexy!!!
